Growing Heirloom Tomatoes

The Deep Cove Spring Market is an indoor and outdoor venue. It showcases local makers and artisans who are thoughtfully curated to complement each other. We want our vendors to provide high quality offerings and we limit the number of vendors in specific categories to reduce saturation at the venue--while striving to provide variety.
Our goal is to create a community event featuring hand made products by makers and artisans that are eco-friendly with a light footprint on mother earth

Join us for a beginner-level gardening workshop, where we guide you through how to start a vegetable garden in 2024. This workshop will be hands-on with participants mixing soil and sowing vegetable seeds to take-home and plant! 👩🌾

Seedy Sunday, Nanaimo
“Celebrate Seeds and The People Who Nurture the Seed”
The purpose of Seedy Sunday Nanaimo is to educate and engage the community in the preservation of heritage seeds through an annual seed exchange event.The Seedy Sunday event is a vital element in the cultivation and co-creation of sustainable communities. This event includes a seed exchange, educational workshops and displays that foster home gardening, local agriculture and sustainable practices which do not rely on the use of toxic chemicals.
Everybody is welcome to attend this popular annual event. Trade or purchase organic and non-hybrid seeds, native plants, bee houses, rain barrels and other tools for self-reliance. There will also be an activity centre for kids! Bring your own seeds to the seed exchange table. This popular event, which is put on by the Nanaimo Foodshare Society and the Nanaimo Community Garden Society, traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of every March, just in time for gardeners to pick up a great variety of seeds, seedlings, and other gardening material and supplies. The focus is on, but not limited to, organic, heritage and heirloom seed varieties. Attendees should be sure to bring their own well marked seeds to trade at the seed exchange table.
The Seed Swap is the core of our Seedy Sunday event. Bring any extra saved seeds for vegetables and flowers to swap. The swap table is always busy and full of different varieties of seed for you to take home and try growing this spring!

Join this workshop designed for anyone (no prior gardening experience needed) to build a large planter with leafy greens, herbs, and vegetables. Learn how to make a high quality soil, which plants you can grow, how to garden in cooler weather, gardening tips, and Q&A with a Master Gardener. A diverse selection of local seeds and plants with be available to everyone with an emphasis on heirloom varieties. No need to bring anything, this workshop includes all of the supplies:

This summer, Kitsilano Neighbourhood House and Westside Food Collaborative are hosting the Westside Community Food Fair, a community event that celebrates the local food system in the Westside.
The event aims to showcase the entire food cycle, from production and processing to distribution and waste recovery, while envisioning a sustainable and just food system.
It will feature educational resources, activations, and workshops provided by local food organizations working towards this vision in the Westside.
